Fehn toys and accessories meet the highest quality and safety standards for products for babies and young children. The FEHNSAFE button is our promise to comply with these standards for all Fehn products. All our products are, of course, tested by leading independent testing institutes for safety and compliance with the ethical and legal requirements.
The quality standards of our products comply with...
...the European Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/CE
and are in compliance with the European standard EN 71. This directive specifies safety regulations for toys and stipulates the requirements and test methods for the different properties of toys.
Fehn products are thoroughly tested in accordance with:
EN 71-1 (Mechanical and physical properties)
This standard tests the integrity of the mechanical and physical properties, shape and size, seam strength, construction, acoustic requirements, labelling and packaging of the products tested.
EN 71-2 (Flammability)
EN 71-3 (Migration of certain elements)
This standard tests the migration of various heavy metals including lead, chrome or cadmium from accessible toy material.
EN 71-9:2005 (Organic chemical compounds)
This standard includes testing for flame retardants, colourants (emulsion paints), primary aromatic amines (e.g. aniline or benzidine), for the monomer content (e.g. bisphenol A or formaldehyde) and plasticisers.
The testing of the above parameters is a prerequisite for toys to bear the CE logo. CE therefore stands for "Conformité Européenne” (European conformity). The use of this logo on the product demonstrates that, as the manufacturer, Fehn complies with the requirements of all the applicable EU directives.
...additional legal requirements
including the Product Safety Act, the Textile Labelling Act, the Food and Feed Code (LFGB) and the Consumer Goods Ordinance.
These requirements test, among others, Azo dyes and plasticisers (phthalates) identified as carcinogenic and the saliva and perspiration fastness of the outer materials.
Paradise Toys – our own production facility in Sri Lanka
As a manufacturer of quality toys for babies, the top priorities for Fehn are safety and compliance with ethical and legal requirements. This is why Fehn does not use third-party suppliers and relies on its own manufacturing sites in Sri Lanka under German management, and production processes in accordance with German quality standards.
The manufacturing company “Paradise Toys (Pvt.) Ltd.” was founded in 1995 by Arnold Fehn, and is part of the Fehn family of companies. Arnold Fehn, Arnold Hilmar Fehn and Dr. Achim Fehn are the CEOs of Paradise Toys, which demonstrates once again that Fehn is literally a “family business”. Our Sri Lankan employees are as much a part of the Fehn family of companies as the employees in Germany.
Paradise Toys employs approx. 2,000 people at the various sites and offers them a secure job and good working conditions.
The production facilities in Sri Lanka are regularly audited pursuant to the stipulations of the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), an initiative to improve global working conditions, and are also certified in accordance with the ISO 9001 standard. The international quality management standard ISO 9001 specifies with which requirements the company management must comply to maintain the defined quality management standard. The permanent in-house analysis of the raw materials used, strict quality control of the end products and continuous improvement of the monitoring and control measures ensure a consistently high level of quality assurance.
70 years of experience in the design and manufacture of toys, the close collaboration between the product design team in Rödental and the production site in Sri Lanka guarantee a consistently high play value, quality and safety of the Fehn products.
