Strong together

Our commitment to fair working conditions along the supply chain

Our own production in Sri Lanka

Social responsibility is a central component of our corporate philosophy. Production takes place with our own employees in our own production company ‘Paradise Toys Pvt. Ltd.’ in Sri Lanka. There, we guarantee fair working conditions in the production of our toys and continuously improve the working environment.

We have been loyal to Sri Lanka for more than 40 years now. Even during the long civil war and during the COVID pandemic, we have maintained and gradually expanded our own production in Sri Lanka.

We are involved in the local community and support a nearby primary school, for example, which many of our employees' children attend. By setting up and maintaining a computer room, we give the children access to information technology and thus improve their educational opportunities.

GOTS certification: Our commitment to ecological and responsible production

Both Fehn and Paradise Toys are audited and certified in accordance with the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This certification includes both social and ecological criteria along the entire supply chain and emphasises our efforts towards sustainable production and fair working conditions.

GOTS - Global Organic Textile Standard

The GOTS standard is a global leader in sustainable textile production and sets strict requirements to guarantee the use of organically produced natural fibres and avoid the use of harmful chemicals. It also promotes fair working conditions and environmental protection through sustainable production methods.

The central contents of the GOTS standard include:

  • Organic raw materials: At least 70% of the fibres must come from organic cultivation, and at least 95% for ‘organic’ products.
  • Strict regulation of chemicals: The use of chemicals is severely restricted in order to protect both the environment and the health of workers and end consumers.
  • Fair labour conditions: GOTS only certifies companies that pay fair wages, provide safe workplaces and do not allow child labour.
  • Transparency and traceability: The entire production process is monitored by independent audits and is fully documented to ensure compliance with the high GOTS standards.

Industry experts confirm that GOTS is one of the most important certifications for ecological and social standards along the entire supply chain. Our certification guarantees that we act sustainably and ethically.

Amfori BSCI: Our benchmark for social standards and sustainable behaviour

BSCI - Business Social Compliance Initiative

Amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) is an internationally recognised standard for the promotion of better working conditions in global supply chains. It includes various social criteria such as employee health and safety, fair wages, safe working conditions, the prohibition of child and forced labour and the recognition of freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.

Amfori Organisation - Logo

Fehn is committed to improving social standards along the supply chain and is therefore a member of the Amfori organisation. Our production facilities at Paradise Toys are audited annually by Amfori BSCI and are rated with the top grade A, which is rarely awarded.

This reflects our successful commitment to ethical principles in manufacturing and the continuous improvement of working conditions.

ISO 14001 certification: Environmental management at the highest level

ISO 14001 certification

Our production company Paradise Toys Pvt. Ltd. is ISO 14001 certified. Our comprehensive environmental management system enables us to effectively and reliably protect the environment in our operations, minimise the environmental impact of our production and use resources efficiently. Through ISO 14001, we are working to continuously improve our environmental footprint. The requirements of ISO 14001 go well beyond the environmental requirements of GOTS.

By fulfilling the GOTS standard, Amfori BSCI auditing and ISO 14001 certification, Fehn and Paradise Toys meet the highest requirements in terms of ecological production, social responsibility and due diligence. Fulfilling the criteria of these three standards is a significant milestone for our companies and also sends a strong signal to our customers and partners that we are seriously committed to sustainable and ethical behaviour in the supply chain.

Operating processes
on a green course

Sustainability in action:
We rely on solar power and CO2 savings

Production in Sri Lanka

A significant step towards sustainability is the expansion of our photovoltaic systems at our production facilities in Sri Lanka and at our headquarters in Rödental.

Since 2017, we have been continuously investing in the expansion of renewable energy at our production plants in Sri Lanka. Between January 2023 and January 2024, we more than doubled our installed solar capacity from 382 kWp to 772 kWp. As a result, we were already able to cover 26% of our local electricity requirements with renewable energy from our own photovoltaic systems in 2023.

In addition to the photovoltaic system, we also operate biogas plants in our production facilities, the gas from which we use for cooking in our canteens. This enables us to save around 800 kg of propane gas from fossil sources per year.

In 2023 alone, we doubled our installed solar capacity and thus our photovoltaic system – from 382 kWp to a remarkable 772 kWp.

The expansion of our solar installations clearly demonstrates that we are fulfilling our environmental responsibilities with determination. We are proud of what we have already achieved and continue to set ambitious goals: In the coming years, we aim to cover 40% of our electricity consumption with our own solar installations.

Headquarters in Rödental

At our headquarters in Rödental, we already source 100% of our electricity from renewable energies. Of this, 35% comes from our own photovoltaic system. The remaining 65% is green electricity provided by the local utility company, Stadtwerke Rödental.

Since the commissioning of our photovoltaic system in Rödental in October 2019 until May 2024, we have generated a total of approximately 130 MWh of electricity. This corresponds to a saving of around 50,000 kg of CO2 emissions – equivalent to planting about 1,500 trees.

Since the end of 2022, we have been heating exclusively with climate-neutral eco-gas from the neighboring utility company, Stadtwerke Neustadt.

By optimizing our processes, logistics, and packaging, we have been able to reduce our waste in Rödental by 40% since 2020. We are constantly seeking new ways to improve our environmental footprint.

Durability. Repairability. Recyclability.

For a world where children
can play safely –
today and tomorrow.

A fundamental goal of our company is to produce high-quality baby products. For us, durability is not just a buzzword but a promise that is reflected throughout the entire development and manufacturing process. Our products are made with the utmost care and from the best materials to ensure a long lifespan. We firmly believe that durable products not only satisfy our customers but also reduce the environmental impact.

We place great emphasis on the repairability of our products. We want our customers to be able to use their favorite products for a long time. That’s why we offer simple and accessible repair options.

For minor defects, we always provide replacement parts such as new mechanisms, clamps, or rings. We can quickly and easily perform minor repairs, such as fixing a torn ear or an opened seam, to restore the products. Thanks to our own manufacturing, we are also capable of carrying out more complex repairs and modifications. If the original fabric is no longer available, we find solutions to use substitute materials.

We can and we want to help. Through these measures, we not only reduce waste but also promote a culture of appreciation and sustainability.

The separability of our products plays an important role. Fehn products can be disassembled into their individual components and recycled. The idea of separability is already taken into account during the design process.

We use exclusively FSC-certified paper for our product packaging and strive to maintain the highest possible recycling rate. We also print our product catalog on FSC-certified paper. Many of our transport and secondary packaging materials already have a 100% recycling rate. The FSC label on our product packaging guarantees that the materials used come from responsibly managed forests and are produced according to strict ecological and social standards. By choosing FSC-certified packaging, we contribute to the protection of forests and the communities living within them.

Sustainability guides our actions. We produce durable, repairable, and recyclable products, and continuously optimize our operations and manufacturing processes. In doing so, we contribute to creating toys with which children can play safely – today and in the future.
