Family is colourful is the campaign theme for Fehn's 75th anniversary. The family-owned company from Rödental is celebrating all kinds of families and the many different facets of family life. A company portrait by Katja Keienburg
75 years of constant progress
75 years of family business, 75 years of living and working for the very youngest: Since its foundation, Fehn has dedicated itself to bringing joy to children from zero to eighteen months and their parents through innovative and lovingly designed toys. Founded by Arthur Fehn in 1949 in Rödental, Franconia, the toy company is now run by the third generation of the Fehn family, Arnold Fehn: ‘We not only see ourselves as one big happy family, but also develop and produce high-quality and lovingly crafted products for happy families.’
A strong unique selling point
Fehn set a milestone in the 1980s with its first production plant in Sri Lanka. In 1995, this strategy was continued and the production company Paradise Toys (Pvt) Ltd was also opened in Sri Lanka, enabling large quantities to be produced efficiently with German quality standards and fair working conditions. Since 1995, the current General Manager Neil Fernando has been in charge of the sites in Sri Lanka and personally ensures on site that German standards are adhered to and that all raw materials are safely processed and tested. The Upper Franconian manufacturer also relies on an in-house team of toy designers and products that allow children to learn through play and discover the world. From the first handmade dolls, mechanical toys and plush toys to the modern, sustainable toys of today - Fehn has always had the needs of families in mind.
Quality toys for 75 years
In 2020, Fehn launched its first purely organic collection ‘fehnNatur®’ - the line has since become a bestseller in the range and is now entering its fourth round. Whether as a sleeping aid or a cuddly friend, the little sheep in the new collection combines organic quality with an unusual design. The soft and cosy outer materials and the filling are made from organic cotton, while the packaging is made from natural cardboard with recycled content. While soft beige tones exude a cuddly charm with the little sheep, there are also collections that are eye-catching in the nursery and turn the campaign motto ‘Family is colourful’ into ‘Fehn is colourful’. This is because babies have poor eyesight at the beginning and usually only recognise black and white. Once their eyes are a little better developed, they perceive strong, striking colours in particular.
‘We reinvent ourselves every year’
The hero of the new Fehn collection is called ‘Otter Theo’. He always has his cuddly blanket and his friend, the fish, with him. With a variety of materials such as plush, jersey, knitwear, soft velour and trendy muslin in fish design as well as a wide range of play functions, ‘Otter Theo’ trains fine motor skills, haptics and hearing with ease. The cuddly friend is available, for example, as a swimming bathing animal, a cosy warming animal with cherry stone filling or a night light with snooze function and glow-in-the-dark yarn. The play glove with rattle, grip ring and mirror, on the other hand, awakens baby's curiosity and offers a variety of surprises. Another novelty is the ‘feehnLand’ collection for little fairytale fans. All products are in subtle shades of pink, combined with a delicate dot pattern. Details made of tulle, muslin and plush pompoms set the tone.
